Gardner scores 27 and Nishida adds 25 as Mikawa’s sharp perimeter shooting overcomes Tokyo’s rebounding advantage

TOKYO, JAPAN — October 24, 2026 — SeaHorses Mikawa defeated Alvark Tokyo 91–82 at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO on Saturday afternoon, powered by efficient scoring from Davante Gardner and Yudai Nishida.

Gardner finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while Nishida scored 25 points and connected on six three-pointers. Yoshiaki Kubota added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists as Mikawa converted 16 of 29 attempts from beyond the arc.

Keyontae Johnson and DeJon Jarreau each scored 20 points for Tokyo. Ryan Rossiter contributed eight points, 14 rebounds and eight assists, but the hosts were unable to overcome Mikawa’s shooting accuracy despite creating substantially more field-goal opportunities.

Mikawa Builds a First-Half Advantage

Mikawa established a 23–19 lead in the opening quarter before outscoring Tokyo 21–18 in the second to enter halftime ahead 44–37.

Nishida and Kubota provided much of the visitors’ early scoring, recording 12 and 11 points respectively before the break.

Mikawa made nine of its 16 first-half three-point attempts and shot 53.1 percent from the field. The visitors also recorded 15 assists on 17 made field goals, reflecting their ability to turn ball movement into productive shooting opportunities.

Tokyo stayed within reach through offensive rebounding. The hosts collected 10 offensive boards in the first half, with Rossiter contributing eight total rebounds and four assists.

However, Tokyo’s 35.0 percent first-half shooting left the home side facing a seven-point deficit.

Tokyo Responds in the Third Quarter

Alvark reduced the gap after halftime, outscoring Mikawa 18–15 in the third quarter.

The hosts limited the visitors’ production during the period and entered the fourth trailing 59–55, setting up a competitive finish.

Johnson and Jarreau ultimately provided Tokyo’s main scoring contributions, combining for 40 points. Johnson finished 9-of-15 from the field, including two of three from three-point range.

Jarreau supplied 20 points off the bench on 7-of-14 shooting, adding four rebounds, three assists and a block. His ability to generate scoring inside the arc and reach the free-throw line gave Tokyo an important alternative to its perimeter attack.

Gardner’s Second-Half Production Makes the Difference

Gardner delivered a major offensive contribution after the interval.

Having scored five points in the first half, he added 22 in the second to finish with a game-high 27. He shot 8-of-12 from the field, made three of four three-point attempts and converted all eight of his free throws.

Nishida added 13 second-half points to reach 25, finishing 9-of-15 overall and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.

Together, Gardner and Nishida accounted for 52 of Mikawa’s 91 points. Their combined efficiency gave the visitors reliable scoring against a Tokyo side that continued to generate extra possessions.

Mikawa scored 32 points in the fourth quarter to Tokyo’s 27, extending its four-point advantage entering the period into a nine-point victory.

Perimeter Accuracy Separates the Teams

The contrast in three-point shooting was a defining feature of the game.

Mikawa converted 16 of 29 attempts, shooting 55.2 percent. Nishida, Kubota and Gardner combined to make 13 of 18 from long range, with Kubota finishing 4-of-5.

Tokyo made 11 of 36 three-pointers, shooting 30.6 percent.

The difference gave Mikawa a 15-point advantage in scoring from beyond the arc, helping offset Tokyo’s strength closer to the basket.

The visitors also made 17 of 22 free throws, compared with Tokyo’s seven successful attempts from 12. Gardner’s perfect performance at the line was particularly valuable in a game where Mikawa faced a substantial disadvantage in shot volume.

Tokyo Creates Opportunities but Falls Short

Tokyo finished with 78 field-goal attempts to Mikawa’s 58, supported by a 15–5 advantage in offensive rebounds and just five turnovers.

The hosts also outscored Mikawa 42–20 in the paint, 19–5 on fast breaks and 16–4 off turnovers.

Rossiter was central to that effort, collecting seven offensive rebounds among his 14 boards while recording eight assists without a turnover.

D.J. Hogg added 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Zack Baranski contributed 10 points off the bench.

Tokyo received 34 bench points compared with Mikawa’s eight, with Jarreau and Baranski accounting for 30 of that total.

Those advantages kept Alvark competitive, but the hosts finished at 41.0 percent from the field, while Mikawa converted exactly half of its attempts.

Mikawa’s Efficiency Decides the Contest

Both teams finished with 22 assists, but Mikawa turned its opportunities into points more efficiently.

Gardner’s second-half scoring, Nishida’s six three-pointers and Kubota’s accurate perimeter shooting gave the visitors enough offensive production to withstand Tokyo’s rebounding and possession advantages.

Sean O’Mara added seven points, 11 rebounds and four assists, helping Mikawa complete its defensive possessions and contributing to its ball movement.

For Tokyo, Johnson and Jarreau delivered strong scoring performances, while Rossiter influenced the game through rebounding and distribution. However, Mikawa’s combination of outside shooting and free-throw production proved decisive.
