MATCH REPORT

The Tokyo Sunrockers earned their first victory of the B.LEAGUE PREMIER era on Saturday, defeating the Chiba Jets 95–79 at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO.

One day after falling 97–92 to Chiba in their season opener, Tokyo responded with a significantly stronger performance, reversing the result and securing a convincing 16-point victory on its home floor.

The win gave the newly renamed Tokyo Sunrockers their first official victory under their new identity and their first in the inaugural B.PREMIER season.

Tokyo Responds After Opening-Night Defeat

Friday’s opening game had been a high-scoring battle in which Chiba held off Tokyo 97–92.

Less than 24 hours later, the Sunrockers produced a different outcome.

Tokyo reached 95 points while limiting a Chiba offense that had scored 97 the previous night to just 79.

The 18-point reduction in Chiba’s scoring output reflected a much stronger defensive performance from the home side, while Tokyo continued to generate enough offense to maintain control of the game.

By the final buzzer, the Sunrockers had turned a five-point opening-night defeat into a 16-point victory.

A First Win in the Club’s New Era

The result carried additional significance for Tokyo.

The 2026–27 season marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organization following its transition from Sunrockers Shibuya to the Tokyo Sunrockers.

TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO is now the stage for that new identity, and Saturday’s victory became the club’s first win in B.PREMIER competition.

After opening the season with a narrow loss, Tokyo avoided starting its new era with consecutive defeats and instead finished its opening matchup against Chiba with one victory apiece.

Chiba Unable to Repeat Opening-Night Success

Chiba entered Saturday’s game looking to build on its 97–92 victory in the first meeting.

In that opener, the Jets had produced 97 points while shooting 43.6 percent from the field, collecting 48 rebounds and recording 19 assists.

The second meeting, however, followed a different pattern.

Tokyo’s defense prevented the Jets from reaching the same offensive rhythm, and Chiba finished 18 points below its total from the previous night.

Against a Sunrockers team determined to respond, the Jets were unable to generate the sustained scoring necessary to erase Tokyo’s advantage.

An Early Statement From the Sunrockers

For Tokyo, the victory represents more than simply its first win of the season.

The opening two games provided an early test against one of Japanese basketball’s established contenders.

After losing a competitive opening game, the Sunrockers answered immediately with a decisive victory the following day.

It was the type of response that illustrated the competitiveness of the new B.PREMIER season — and gave Tokyo its first winning moment under its new name.

The opening matchup between the two clubs ultimately ended with each team taking one victory at TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO.

For the Sunrockers, however, Saturday’s 95–79 result will carry a special place in club history.

It was their first victory as the Tokyo Sunrockers.

And their first win in B.LEAGUE PREMIER.
